Tilt and Turn Windows - The Modern Window

Tilt-Turn windows tilt inwards from the top and open partially for ventilation as well as opening fully from the side like a door. Tilt-Turn windows are ideal for easy cleaning or for use as a means of escape. Tilt and turn windows come with the usual options: variety of glass, glazing and frame styles. Glazing options usually include; single glazed, double glazed, leaded or decorative effect. Frames are either softwood, hardwood or low maintenance UPVC usually in either white or woodgrain finish (other finishes are available with most companies in our network).

Casement Windows

Traditional casement windows with opening lights, or sashes, can be made in a small workshop with just basic hand-held power tools and basic joints. Add some transoms, mullions and glazing bars and you can make frames of any size with any combination of lights. Material dimensions and design features, such as mouldings, vary to match adjacent windows. On larger frames, member sizes may be beefed up a bit. Larger sashes often have a wider bottom rail, usually 70mm, for greater stability.

Sash Windows

Sash windows are very popular on period properties with their traditional and classical design. They consist of two frames, one above the other, which are situated in a box frame. One of the panes slides up and down and is held in place by a pulley. The pulley allows the heavy frame to be opened with relative ease and remain in place. There is no doubt that the older sash windows are draughty and are not great heat insulators. This makes houses with old style sash window the target of aggressive double-glazing salesmen. However, most people with period properties would rather keep the look and appeal of sash windows, than replace them with modern sealed units with PVC-u frames.

However, it is possible to upgrade older style sash windows to get both the classical look and the modern efficiency of double glazing. These days many manufacturers make sealed units that are fitted into traditional sash frames.

Replacement window benefits

Iproved look and value of property - It is a fact that by replacing old windows and doors with new styles and shapes, the look of your property will improve significantly. This increases the properties attraction not only for you and your neighbours, but also to potential buyers.

Improved insulation - The very latest double-glazed windows and doors offer more improved insulation compared to traditional windows and doors. In addition to their better insulation, the latest windows and doors are also draught-proof. These factors reduce the amount of heat that can escape, so you can cut down on your heating and save on fuel bills without sacrificing comfort.
